CEDC FUNDS 13 NEW ECONOMY INITIATIVES

Various initiatives supporting Arizona’s GSPED clusters and foundations have received $450,000 in grants from the Commerce and Economic Development Commission as well as $100,000 in funds appropriated by the Legislature.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC SERIES ON ARIZONA AND THE NEW ECONOMY

Nationally-acclaimed authors Neil Peirce and Curtis Johnson of the

LOCATION FILMING BOOSTS ECONOMIES THROUGHOUT ARIZONA

Five major films (Planet of the Apes, Evolution, Groom Lake, View From The

Top and Aftermath) have recently completed filming on location throughout

Arizona. Production companies spend close to $25,000 per day - a direct

boost to local economies.

ADOC APPROVES ENTERPRISE ZONES

Enterprise Zone renewals and an expansion have been approved for 2001.

Tucson, South Tucson, Tempe, and Benson as well as Pinal County are

affected.

OFFICE OF HOUSING & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ANNUAL REPORT ONLINE ADOC’s Housing & Community Development programs made a total estimated economic contribution of $612.5 million to Arizona’s economy in FY 2000.

More than 9900 jobs resulted from construction projects facilitated by these

programs.

2001 COUNTY WAGE MINIMUMS SET FOR EZ TAX CREDITS

New county minimum wage standards used in applying for Enterprise Zone tax

credits have been announced for 2001.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT: RURAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (REDI)

This ADOC Community Development program provides technical and grant

assistance to rural communities organizing an economic development program

or effort. REDI helps communities become more attractive for capital

investment and industrial and business locations while preserving and

maintaining existing business and industry.
